Springtime with a Dog
Hello Friends!
April showers bring May flowers…and HOPEFULLY some more sunshine to the PNW. If you’re like most of us around here, you’re getting a little stir crazy from the rain. As many of you have heard, through the winter months we have been hard at work at Jax Dog Drop preparing to open a second location. We are very excited to open this location in Redmond, WA in a few weeks. Once construction is closer to completion we will update on a target opening date and Grand Opening Celebration!
With the longer days, comes more time outside. This is a good opportunity to check your yard and locate any possible poisonous or hazardous items to your pet. Make sure to keep fertilizer, rodent repellent and sprays out of reach from your four legged friend. Even a tiny amount of poison can be deadly, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Warmer weather also is when bugs begin to emerge. Make sure to stay up-to-date on medications to ensure your pet stays safe from insects and parasites. After time outside or in the woods, it’s good to do a quick inspection that no insects or ticks have attached themselves to your dog. If you do find a tick, here’s some quick steps to remove it.
Wearing gloves and using a pair of tick removing tweezers, grab the tick as close to your pet's skin as you can. Pull straight up in a swift movement, making sure not to grip too hard.
Place the tick in a screw-top jar containing some rubbing alcohol. Screw on the lid.
Disinfect the bite site on your pet. Wash your hands thoroughly, and disinfect all tools that came in contact with the tick.
Monitor the bite site. If it is still inflamed after a week or so, bring your pet and the tick in to the veterinarian for examination.
A fun event to look into if you like baseball; the Mariner’s are hosting three nights where you can bring your dog to a baseball game! Staff from Jax are going to the July 6th game and would love to see some of our friends join. If you’re worried about your dog behaving for the game, just bring them to daycare the day of the game so they will be tired and happy to be at a game with you.
